A locksmith in Burton has offered to upgrade  the security systems of a local charity, free of charge, after the centre has been the target of several thefts over a 2 month period.

The RSPCA centre in Stretton was raided during Christmas 2011 and early in the new year. The RSPCA is a self-funded charity and doesn’t receive  any government funding, so the loss of the money was a huge blow to the upkeep of the charity.

Tim Gray, owner of Burton based Livens Ltd, offered to upgrade the aging security systems completely free of charge because the charity could not afford to upgrade it themselves.  Mr Gray condemned the criminal act calling it “ridiculous ” and hopes the new system will keep the site, and the charities hard earned donation monies safe.

Handy Signs, also in Burton donated a sign to the cause that warns criminals to stay away from the site.

Yvonne Asker, manager for the Stretton RSPCA, thanked the police and local businesses for their support and kindness during the difficult time period and said that the charity was “eternally grateful” for the donations.

PC Nigel Armitage also praised the generosity of local businesses, and said it was good to see partnerships forming in the local community with a number of different organisations all working together in an attempt to reduce crime.

The Royal Society For The Protection Of Animals is UK’s leading charity in protecting the welfare of animals. It was founded in 1824 which means it is the largest and oldest running animal welfare organisation in the world.
